The cyclone desander is a wellhead desander used for testing with surface equipments to provid efficient and reliable separation of sand and solids from hydrocarbon and water effluent during either the early life of a well (well cleanup) or its producing life (recovery of formation sand), based on the working principle of the rapid rotation of solid particles in the desander. The unit is positioned as close as possible to the wellhead (upstream of the choke manifolds) to remove solids from high-velocity effluent streams before the fluids undergo further processing to prevent damage, fouling and blockage in downstream equipment.During operation, the entire well stream is fed into the desander vessel, where separation takes place inside the cyclonic inserts based on centrifugal force, centripetal buoyancy force and fluid drag force. The separated solids fall down into an accumulator, which can be isolated, depressurized, and flushed.Performace depends on effluent conditions such as particle size distribution,effluent-to-particle density contrast, effluent viscosity, and inlet velocity.
